14-year-old Tyler Uslan died in a car accident after his vehicle overturned in an irrigation canal in Clarksburg.

The victim’s brother, a 16-year-old, was driving the vehicle early Sunday morning.

The 16-year-old had a provisional license, meaning he should not have been in the car with another teenager without a licensed adult present.

California Highway Patrol says the driver was heading north on Z Line Road at unsafe speeds when something caused him to slam on the breaks.

The car was along the edge of an irrigation canal and ground beneath started to give way.

As the car slid toward the canal, the 14-year-old managed to get out of the vehicle.

The victim was pinned between the vehicle and the canal.

Uslan was the son of Lincoln Unified Superintendent Tom Uslan. Friends say the victim and his brother were very close.
