In a case ripe with irony, police say they have arrested a man who had been out putting holiday shopping safety tips brochures on cars.

According to a release from the Stockton Police Department, a Community Service Office out near Pacific Avenue and Ben Holt Drive saw a suspect – who had looked to be putting some pamphlets on cars – stealing some items out of an unlocked car.

The officer then radioed patrol officers to the area to confront the suspect.

Police say the man – identified as 25-year-old Alexander Mason – ran as soon as he saw the police officers. But, he was soon caught and arrested.

Mason now faces theft and resisting arrest charges.

The items he allegedly stole have been returned to their owner.
