Three separate fires, burning a total of three acres, along the American River may have been intentionally set, according to firefighters.

The fires started at about 2:40 p.m. Two fires were on the south side of the river and one was on the north side, near Highway 160 and Northgate Boulevard.

Each fire was extinguished within 20 minutes. Investigators are calling the fires suspicious because flames were on both sides of the river.
