Man in Critical Condition after Early Morning Fire at Duplex

A man is in critical condition after firefighters pulled him from a Carmichael duplex going up in smoke.

Sacramento Metro Fire crews showed up along Safari Court, off of Arden Way, after callers reported seeing black smoke coming from a duplex.

Crews soon found that the fire was engulfing one side of the home. Acting quickly, firefighters did a search of the home and found a man inside and pulled him out. The man was eventually taken to Kaiser Hospital North in critical condition.

In total, 26 firefighters were called to the scene and were able to keep the fire from getting out of the kitchen. According to a release from Metro Fire, about $300,000 in property was saved.

Arson investigators were called to the scene, Metro Fire officials note. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
