San Joaquin County authorities are saying that a 43-year-old inmate died in custody Monday afternoon.
Correctional officers found Noel Valencia unresponsive in his single-person cell around 12:30 p.m., according to a release from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
In spite of life-saving measures from emergency personnel, Valencia was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released an official cause of death, as an autopsy and toxicology report are pending.
Valencia had been booked at the jail back on Dec. 12 for felony drug charges.
