A nine-year-old girl has died after the car she was in was rear-ended by another driver.
Monday morning, along McHenry Avenue in Modesto, a Ford Expedition rear-ended a Toyota Rav4. CHP officers say the driver of the Expedition didn’t see the Rav4 in front of her, and was going about 35 miles-per-hour when she hit it.
As a result of the crash, the nine-year-old girl, identified by family members as Mariah Izzo, was critically injured. She was rushed to UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
A woman in her 40s and a 10-year-old boy were also inside the Rav4 at the time of the crash, and were treated for minor injuries.
The young girl died Christmas Eve night at UC Davis.
The crash is still under investigation; CHP officers do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
