Lodi’s Kofu skate park will be closed indefinitely for repairs to it’s wooden ramps and structures.
This is not the first time the park has been closed. In the past, vandalism, drug and alcohol use have been problems that caused city park and rec officials to close the park.
The holiday school break isn’t the ideal time to close the park. Skateboarders say there is no other park in town. The closest are in Galt, Stockton and Elk Grove.
There is a concern that skateboarders will begin skating illegally on public property where damage, injury and liability are a problem.
Luckily, repairs to the ramps will not cost much, about $7,000 of which $3,500 has been identified.
The city will begin discussing budget items in January and skaters hope that the park will reopen soon.
