You hear the lyrics, “sipping on sizzurp” in songs by Lil Wayne and Three 6 Mafia.

It is another term for a cough syrup concoction that is making the rounds in hip hop and on our streets.

Sometimes known as “Purple Drank,” it is Promethazine cough syrup often mixed with juice, soda or candy.

“It is basically a codeine drink and if you take too much of it, you could overdose and die,” Stockton Police Officer Joseph Silva said.

As the new high gains in popularity, Stockton pharmacies like the Forty-Niner Drug Store are removing the syrup from their shelves.

“They broke the window about two in the morning and they came in and grabbed what they thought was the purple cough syrup,” store owner Don Smith told FOX40 Monday.

Just a couple weeks prior to that and only a few blocks away, thieves also hit Dameron Hospital Pharmacy.

“The suspect came in and jumped over the counter and grabbed cough medicine with codeine,” hospital Chief Operating Officer Michael Glasberg said.

Hospital officials have since installed cameras and increased security.

While no one was injured in either of the cases police say the robbers are becoming more aggressive.

If you have any information about these cases you are urged to contact Stockton Police.
