Finally, some significant snowfall hit Truckee on Thursday, blanketing the mountain town.
It had been 55 days since Erik Holmes said he’s had to shovel-off town square. And in a town that revolves around seasonal visitors, that hurts.
“Everything from ski areas to our own local businesses… so not having snow we just don’t have any people,” Holmes said.
What snow was falling Thursday stopped by mid-morning, and began to melt. It was too little, too late for people like Antonella Di Cosco.
“I’m sad because I planned all this year to come to America. But I know these things happen,” Di Cosco said.
Di Cosco and her friends came here from Argentina to work at an area ski resort and see California. But she’s gotten less than half the work hours that she was counting on.
“Three weeks ago we had to pay bills, and we didn’t have any money,” Di Cosco said.
So she and some of her friends have made plans to move to another resort on the East Coast, leaving California literally how it left her financially- high and dry.
