Residents in Butte County are reporting suspicious calls from an unknown caller who is posing as an employee with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is trying to trick citizens in to thinking they have a warrant out in their name and that a payment is to be made within 90 minutes.

The caller is suspected of using the technique named “called ID spoofing” and it allows the caller to make their number appear as if it is from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Butte Country Sherriff’s Office confirmed that it is a scam and the office does not call citizens to advise them of warrants.

If you receive a phone call from someone that is identifying themselves as an employee and requesting a payment or saying there is a warrant out, please call (530)-538-7322 and do not provide any personal information regarding credit card numbers.
