Drivers in the high Sierra Monday night encountered whiteout weather along Interstate 80 over Donner Summit.
Blinding snow fell between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. It was the first of several periods of winter-like weather that will impact the Sierra this week and next.
Mountain travelers are urged to be prepared with chains or 4-wheel drive with snow tires.
Skiers and snowboarders are excited that fresh powder will once again pile up. Many of the winter resorts are planning to keep their slopes open through at least the Easter Holiday.
