Springtime is a refreshing time for most because of all of the pretty scenery and vibrant flowers. However it also brings a spike in asthma symptoms for many Americans, particularly in Sacramento.
NerdWallet analyzed data on asthma prevalence, air quality, cost and access to asthma care in the 50 largest cities in the nation, and ranked Sacramento as the seventh worst city for asthma sufferers.
In Sacramento, asthma affects 1.8% of children and 6.3% of adults. The report also gave Sacramento failing grades in air quality categories.
The city with the worst ranking was Los Angeles, primarily because of its low number of allergy specialists and the cost of hospital charges.
The best ranked city was Omaha, Nebraska for the combination of low asthma prevalence, good air quality, and relatively low costs of hospitalization and over-the-counter medications.
