The Lincoln Place apartment complex in Sacramento is giving up smoking – completely.

Management cites the dangers of second-hand smoke, which can cause serious illness or death, as their reason. A smoke-free complex is attractive to some tenants.

“One of the biggest pet peeves at my apartment complex right now is that I come out of my apartment, and these smoking posts is right in front of my apartment,” prospective tenant Tania Rivera said. “It’s a nuisance to have to talk through that smell all the time.”

Smoking at Lincoln Place will be banned in all common areas, including the pool area, sidewalks and balconies. Smoking inside your unit will also be banned.

The complex will not break a smoker’s lease, but they either have to comply with the new police or move.

The policy goes into effect Aug. 1.
