Thunderstorms with heavy rain rumbled through the northern Sacramento Valley throughout Monday afternoon and evening.

The rain will help put a damper on fire danger. But the lightning is enough of a concern that Cal Fire is increasing staffing in Siskiyou, Lassen and Modoc counties this week, according to agency spokesman Dennis Mathison.  Staffing will be increased in other areas if the lightning becomes more widespread.

While rain is often a welcome relief for farmers, one grower in Corning said Monday’s rain fell so heavily that it could damage some fragile blooms and saturate hay stacks that are supposed to stay dry.
