Flowers and candles line the porch at the Midtown apartment on 17th Street where a 31-year-old woman was found dead Saturday morning.

“You don’t hear a lot for rape stories or woman assaulted. I mean, I hope that’s not what it was, especially so close to home for me,” Midtown resident Maritza Lara said.

A day after saying the woman’s death appeared suspicious, Sacramento Police released no new details from their investigation.

“Based on her position, the blood on scene, it appears she died from a traumatic injury,” Lieutenant Justin Risley said Saturday.

Sunday, the Sacramento County Coroner’s office listed the name for the woman who died in the apartment as Kelsey Snyder. Also on Sunday, friends of Snyder created a tribute page for her on Facebook under “In Loving Memory of Kelsey Snyder”.

“We don’t believe this was a random act. We’re looking at some kind of connection, perhaps with the victim and the suspect,” Lieutenant Risley said on Saturday.

“This is a very quiet, very romantic place. People looking for trouble, this is not their cup of tea,” Anthony Sadeghi, owner of Karma Brew on 16th and P Street told FOX40.

In recent years there have been several violent crimes near the corner of 17th and P Streets.

“Yeah it seems a little bit creepy, but I guess it could really happen anywhere,” Midtown resident Andrew Crutchfield said.
