A man whose mugshot made hundreds of thousands of women swoon, is coming closer to Sacramento.
The San Joaquin County District Attorney dismissed their charges against Jeremy Meeks Tuesday, deferring to a federal indictment against him.
Meeks was facing street terrorism, resisting a peace officer and other felony charges from his arrest during an “Operation Ceasefire” sweep last month in Stockton.
Meeks was arrested along with three others in June as part of the sweep, which served almost a dozen search warrants. However, Meeks gained national attention after hundreds of thousands of women commented on his mugshot on FOX40’s and the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook pages.
In fact, “#FreeJeremyMeeks” was trending for awhile last month on Twitter, and there is a Facebook page dedicated to him with more than 200,000 “likes”.
A federal grand jury indicted Meeks last week. He has a felony grand theft conviction from 2002 in Solano County.
He faced a federal judge in Sacramento Tuesday afternoon for charges based on the same set of facts as the earlier charges. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
