The Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento has a doberman mystery on its hands.

Sunday, the young dog was dropped off by someone who say they found her in the Del Paso Heights area.

Now named Heidi by her temporary owner, the dog has tears on her ears and damage to the top of her head.

City Animal Services Director Gina Knepp says a large percentage of the animals dropped off to the non-profit shelter come from the Del Paso Heights area. She believes in the case of Heidi, someone may have been trying to perform an in-home surgery to crop the dog’s ears.

Performing any such cosmetic or surgical operation on an animal is illegal.

The shelter will send employees to the North Sacramento area with a picture to see if anyone recognizes the dog.
