New at the State Fair: Whiskey-Infused, Bacon-Wrapped Churro

Amber Vanderwarker and her dad know bacon. Their latest concoction – a whiskey-infused, bacon-wrapped churro – is sure to be a crowd pleaser at the California State Fair.

How do you come up with such a thing? Vanderwarker’s answer is pretty simple.

“In the off-season, we love to play and have what we call ‘fry parties,'” she told FOX40. “We invite a bunch of friends and family over and everybody fires up their bacon-wrapped, craziest things they can think of.”

Vanderwarker said someone’s suggestion that Jack Daniels and bacon pair well led them to putting the whiskey in a churro.

“It was one of the best things we came up with, so we’re bringing it to the fair,” Vanderwarker said.

When they’re not dreaming up the most “fair food” things ever, Vanderwarker and her dad teach math in San Diego.

“It’s kind of like a nice mix-up to my normal teaching job,” she said. “I get to step away from Mrs. Vanderwarker and get to be, you know, ‘The Bacon Girl’ and come out here and have fun.”
