Brothers Identified in Deadly Plane Crash near Placerville

El Dorado County Plane Crash

A private, fixed-wing plane crashed in El Dorado County. The plane had 2 passengers, and 1 died in the crash.


Two brothers were aboard a plane that crashed Saturday evening in El Dorado County, killing one of them.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Perry Nieland, 52, who died in the crash, and his brother Richard Nieland, 55.

No word on Richard’s condition at this time.

The brothers were from San Jose.

Investigators say they do not known who was piloting the private fixed wing plane at the time of Saturday’s crash.

The two were heading to Swansboro Airport, when their plane crashed nearby.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash. Witnesses reported the plane circled the Swansboro Airport once, then disappeared.
