The King Fire, burning in El Dorado County, more than doubled in size between Wednesday and Thursday.

As of 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Cal Fire reported the fire to have burned 70,994 acres. It is only five percent contained.

Mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect. To view a list, click here.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Highway 50 was closed for a second time overnight and into Thursday morning because of back fires being set, which aim to deprive the actual fire of fuel. The CHP said it would reevaluate the closure during daylight hours.

More than 2,000 homes are threatened by the fire, but none have burned.
