The 26-year-old babysitter who allegedly shot a 12-year-old in August was arrested this week and arraigned in Sacramento on Friday.
Douglas Houghland was arraigned on charges of felony child endangerment and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Twelve-year-old Keyonte Townsel says Houghland shot him in the leg.
He bail was previously set at $100,000. But because of his criminal history, including a recent arrest on assault charges, the DA's office wanted the amount increased.
"Based on my experience it seemed low, based on the current charges that we have alleged," said Deputy DA James Wax.
The judge went beyond prosecutors' recommendations and set Houghland's bail at half a million.
Townsel told FOX40 in an exclusive interview that he's happy the babysitter who allegedly shot him will finally face justice.
"Hope he goes to jail for a long time," said Townsel.
Townsel is now bandaged and confined to a wheelchair.
"I thought I was going to die, because there was a lot of blood everywhere," said Townsel.
He says even though his leg is broken, he hopes his dreams won't be.
"My dream was to get in the NFL and play football. And play for the Niners," said Townsel.
