Lodi Police have ruled the death of retired Lodi Fire Battalion Chief Gary Duck to be a suicide.

Duck was found in Roget Park on Sept. 6, dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators say that wound was self-inflicted.

No gun was found on the scene. Police believe an unknown person came upon the gun and left with it.

“He saved the lives of my team and myself twenty years ago, and I have never forgotten it,” Lodi Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Larson, who trained as a captain under Duck, told FOX40 earlier this month.
