The lay of the land is picturesque, but it is definitely filled with danger.

The fire that has taken more than 92,000 acres away from El Dorado County has already injured 6 people, including several firefighters, over the course of 11 days.

The most recent of these injuries occurred on Wednesday.

An inmate firefighter from Norco was lifted out of the area by helicopter, flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

"Being along the perimeter, access to roads aren't always available. Sometimes the quickest transport is a helicopter to transport that firefighter to quick medical care," said Tom Piranio of Cal Fire.

A tree limb fell on the firefighter while he was on the fire line in the south zone of the blaze.

"They're actually cutting fire line, direct line. They are helping and assisting and they work side-by-side with very dangerous situations just like others," said Piranio.
