Search crews are along the shore of the American River, looking for a missing fisherman

Emergency crews were called to the American River near the Howe Avenue Bridge Thursday morning to find a missing man.

FOX40 spoke with the man’s friends who say he was in his late-20s. They were all fishing together, when the victim said he wanted to make his way to the other side.

His friends watched as he waded out into the river, went below the water and did not come back up.

About an hour later, crews found the body of the man and pulled him from the water. They attempted emergency resuscitation on the shore, but the man had died.

His identity has not been released at this time.
