Online filmmaker and outdoorsman Cory Williams was driving in Alaska when he found a frozen lake, and discovered the “coolest sound ever”. His video is going viral online.

We’re now learning that Williams, is from California, and before moving to Alaska this August he lived in Los Angeles. According to the Turlock City News, he lived in Turlock for a time as well, under the online name, “Mr. Safety”.

Recently he filmed himself as he picked up a rock, and attempted to skip it across the frozen lake, because “it will never go in”.

The resulting sound blew his mind.

The science behind the sound? The radar-like pings are created by the vibration of the ice caused by the rock.
