ROSEVILLE-

A young man is dead, and three others are hurt after an accident along I-80 in Roseville early Saturday morning.

24-year-old Shane Holland died. His father, Steve Holland said it happened while his son and boyfriend, Brady Lawrence, were riding home from a Halloween party in an Uber taxi.

"They go out, have a good time. In this case they were smart enough to get an Uber taxi so they wouldn't be driving if they party too hard," said Holland to KRON 4 in the Bay Area.

CHP said it happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on westbound I-80, just west of Riverside Avenue.

Officers said Holland died when the Toyota Camry he was in slammed into two trees after losing control while trying to avoid a car stuck in the middle of a freeway.

CHP said a total of three cars crashed into or sideswiped that stalled car. Three people were hurt.

North Sacramento CHP Spokesperson, Chad Hertzell, said all of the drivers were likely going too fast in the rain.

"You have to reduce your speed drastically in the rain because if something like this happens, and it happens like this all the time in Sacramento, you're going to be found at fault. You can't blame the weather for that," said Hertzell.

None of the drivers have been charged.

CHP said the investigation is expected to last a few weeks.

FOX40 reached out to Uber for comment on who is responsible for accidents involving ride sharing vehicles, and is still waiting to hear back from them.
