A man hit a pedestrian and kept going for a mile and a half before getting stopped by an officer in New Jersey, prosecutors say.

Police say 33-year-old Marcos Ortega was driving impaired Monday when he hit a man in Ocean Township. Ortega kept driving for 1.5 miles before a patrolman saw “a person halfway through the vehicle’s windshield.”

Ortega was booked into jail for hit and run and causing serious bodily injury to another while driving under the influence.

Prosecutors say the man Ortega hit is listed in critical condition at the hospital.
