Heavy rains started falling in the southern part of the valley early Tuesday morning and spread north, leaving roads everywhere soaked by the morning commute.

The heavy rains hit the majority of the Sacramento area right around 7 a.m.

There will be a break in the rains in the early afternoon, then another band of showers fill back in.

The storm hitting Tuesday morning is pulling warm moisture from the south, bringing it north.

Areas in the Sierra like Grass Valley could get up to five inches of rain, but very little snow.

The passes will see a little snow, but it is only expected to drop down to elevations 7,000 feet and above.

Another storm will form Tuesday evening, and stick around for most of Wednesday.
