The Salvation Army in Modesto says it found a diamond ring valued at $5,000 in one of its donation kettles.

The charity said someone simply walked into its business office and dropped the 2-karat ring into one of its annual “Red Kettle.”

“I hope that it helps,” the anonymous donor said, according to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army says it plans to have the ring formally appraised and then sell it to the public. Funds from the ring’s sale will go toward the Berberian Homeless and Transition Shelter, the Child Development Center or the Social and Emergency Services program.

If you are interested in buying the ring, call the Modesto Salvation Army Business Manager Brian Aird at (209) 522-3209.

The Salvation Army says it typically raises between 40-50 percent of its local services funds during the holidays.
