Two people have died Christmas Eve in a plane crash in Amador County.

A 911 call to sheriff’s deputies reported the crash outside the City of Sutter Creek, north of Jackson just after noon.

Deputies and firefighters got to the scene, north of Westover Field airport, and found a single-engine plane that had crashed.

According to the Amador County Sheriff’s Department, 52-year-old Phillip Faillers was flying the plane. He had picked up his 27-year-old son, Alex, in Gilroy. Both were killed in the crash.

Investigators believe fog is to blame for the crash.

“It was horrible weather. I can’t imagine why these people were flying,” Ron Floyd, of Sutter Creek, said Wednesday.
