Parents wait in line to register their kids for kindergarten in Elk Grove.

Elk Grove parents wanting their kids to go to specific and local elementary schools lined up Tuesday morning for kindergarten registration.

At John Ehrhardt Elementary, about 20 parents waited in line for the 7:30 a.m. registration.

“This is our kid’s future, it’s very important,” a dad named Danny said.

There was also another line at the school, as parents wanting their kids to go to Marion Mix Elementary, which hasn’t even opened up yet.

“We don’t know exactly how many spots are available,” Ehrhardt Principal Billy Aydlett said.

Elk Grove Unified School District has a long history of parents waiting in line to register their children for classes, however in recent years with the addition of more schools, lines aren’t nearly as long.

Everyone in line Tuesday morning is expected to get their child in the school they want.
