A Stockton Police Department spokesperson said a man digging through a dumpster discovered a fetus Sunday afternoon at the Louis Park Estates on Occidental Avenue.

Stockton police said a man made the discovery around 2:30 p.m. while searching for cans inside the trash bin.

A friend of Antoinette Sims was close by when the man started to shout he had discovered the fetus.
Thinking the man had only found a doll, that friend looked inside.

"She screamed and all I heard was 'a baby is dead,'" Sims told FOX40.

Family crimes detectives spent the day processing the scene. The police department said it's unsure how old the fetus was, or how long it had been there, but they hope an autopsy will answer those questions. Most who live in the apartment complex said the saddest part is who ever left the fetus had so many other options.

"9-1-1! 9-1-1 is an option you know? Prayer," said Ivory Threatt.

Some neighbors told FOX40 they saw two people wearing hooded sweatshirts with a duffle bag by the same dumpster earlier, but no one is sure if there's a connection.

Police are canvasing the neighborhood, asking for tips from the public.

A department spokesperson said at minimal, whoever put the fetus in the dumpster will face unlawful disposal of human remains charges.
