A teacher was arrested by Merced County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday for alleged misconduct, including inappropriately touching juvenile inmates.

Marilouise Hawks, 54, is also accused of smuggling cell phones into the Iris Garret Juvenile Justice Complex in Merced and participating in a street gang.

Hawks was an educator at Iris Garret for the last 9 years, until she was allegedly caught sneaking a note to an inmate in October.

Investigators also say Hawks posted photos of inmates on Facebook to “promote their gang status.”
