A sign directs people in Yuba City to free sand and bags.

The Sutter County Maintenance Department is urging the public who need sandbags to pick them up now as opposed to waiting until it’s too late.

“Last storm (in December) we had a line of people waiting in the rain to fill up sandbags,” Maintenance Superintendent Dave McCready said.

With the brunt of the this storm ready to hit in the afternoon hours and possibly last for days, the lot on the maintenance ground in Yuba City was empty, as many people who already need them have already picked up their free sand and bags, or are waiting until after the storm hits.

Sutter County has eight locations where residents can pick up sandbags all but the location in the Yuba City are open 24 hours.
