Neighbors in Fair Oaks are hoping the public will recognize a package thief who was caught on camera taking boxes in the 4000 block of Runway Drive.

"This person actually had stopped on the door, knocked on it and left so we were able to get a better image," said John Dawson.

Dawson told FOX40 this was the 4th time package thieves have stolen boxes off his door step. He believes the neighborhood has been targeted for years now, in part because of its close proximity to Phoenix Park.

"We're right across the street from the park unfortunately, which means they can potentially sit there and watch the trucks come in. They can come over shortly after the package is delivered," Dawson said.

But this time, picking the easy target did not pay off.

"In the end, in my opinion, kind of the laugh is on them," Dawson said.

This particular cardboard box contained pirate themed party favors meant for a 4-year-old's birthday party.

"Kids still had a great time, but it's still unfortunate," Dawson said.

Neighbors have posted photos of the thief on mailboxes and sign posts in the area, in hope that someone will recognize the man and turn him in.

"I'm sure they were disappointed that they took a risk like that and there's no reward for them," Dawson said.

The man in the surveillance video is a Caucasian male with a medium build, short light-colored hair and tattoos covering his neck, arms and legs. If you have any information about the theft, you can contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and remain anonymous.
