A three-alarm fire kept firefighters with Cosumnes, Sacramento and Metro Fire departments very busy Friday morning. The fire broke out at the Cosumnes Community Service Building on Elk Grove Boulevard late Thursday night.

The building houses many community service departments including the Parks and Rec Department for the Elk Grove and Southern Sacramento County area, used by more than 150,000 people.

"It's an old building (formally a school administration building) without sprinklers, and older wood, it went from one to three alarms quickly," Cosumnes Fire Deputy Chief Mike McLaughlin said.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the records departments and computer servers, however the community service website was down after power was turned off.

The Cosumnes Fire Department estimated the amount of damage to cost between $6 million and $6.5 million. Investigators said the fire was "accidental in nature."
