One person is dead as a result of a head-on collision on Highway 12 Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 6:35 a.m.

According to CHP, one car was driving westbound at an undetermined speed, while another car was driving eastbound at 55 mph.

For an unknown reason, the first car crossed into the eastbound lane, with the left fronts of each car striking each other.

The impact caused the first car to roll over before coming to rest on its roof south of Highway 12.

The second car went off the north side of Highway 12 before sliding backwards into a canal.

The driver of the first car succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

At this time, authorities are not considering alcohol a factor in this accident.
