Fire crews battled a wildfire near Highway 49 just south of El Dorado on Thursday.

The fire started around 2:15 p.m., and by 6 p.m. the fire had burned about 14 acres and was 75 percent contained, according to spokesman Daniel Berlant.

Firefighters said actually accessing the fire presented a challenge. Crews were performing water drops by helicopter to douse the flames.

The fire is near the location of last year's Sand Fire, which destroyed 20 homes.

Some people who lived nearby said the fire started when a car ignited. However, Cal Fire has not verified that information and no official cause has been released.
