NORTH HIGHLANDS-

A man is now under arrest in connection  with a homicide on Watt Avenue and Larchmont Drive on Wednesday night.

According to investigators, Nichole Riolo was driving southbound on Watt Avenue when she pulled over after passing by a man walking in the roadway.

Riolo then exited her vehicle, and was attacked by the pedestrian as she was walking back to her car.

Detectives say Riolo then walked across Watt Avenue and into a parking lot where she collapsed.

The suspect, who has been identified as 28-year-old Juan V. Avalos, fled the scene soon after.

During the assault, the victim suffered a laceration on her neck, which resulted in her death.

Avalos was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on Thursday morning. He's being charged with murder and is being held without bail.

Nichole Riolo's fiancee, Rachel Powe, issued the following statement:

"Let me tell you a little about my best friend, my partner, the love of my life and soul mate.

Nichole had an old soul. She loved everyone. Always willing to help no matter who it was. She is the type of person that she would give you the shirt off your back. If you needed money she would give it to you. She was not afraid of anything or anyone. Most caring and loving person i know. She always was laughing and smiling."
