Truckee Police this morning arrested a 10-year-old suspected of setting a series of small fires.

Fire crews responded to a report of a small grass fire in the yard of a vacant residence on Copenhagen Drive in Truckee on Wednesday morning. The fire was quickly put out, but investigators located several other smoldering areas nearby where fires had been previously set.

The investigation led detectives to a local elementary school where a 10-year-old boy was identified as the suspect who intentionally set the fires.

The boy, a Truckee resident, was arrested on suspicion of arson and later released to the custody of his parents.

The case is being referred to the Nevada County Probation Department because of the suspect’s age.
