Sacramento Fire crews searched for a possible victim in the American River near the Howe Avenue boat launch on Wednesday afternoon, but did not find anyone.

Crews swept the area of the victim’s last known location about 4 p.m. and set up a perimeter.  Swimmers were also in the water searching.

Sacramento police provided air support in the search.  The police chopper was pointing out possible matches and boats were following up.

There were reportedly no witnesses who saw someone fall in the water — just a person seen on a small white boat, and then no one there.

Crews started to scale down the incident about 5:10 p.m. after finding nothing. The search was eventually called off.
