Fire crews douse flames near Cal Expo in July 2014.

The Sacramento Fire Department will conduct its first of several training exercises in the Cal Expo area.

Training burns are expected to happen between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the first of which will be along the American River Parkway bike trail near Woodlake Village. Firefighters hope to get the message out so that they are not flooded with 911 calls.

With California in its fourth year of drought, fire officials say “fire season” is a thing of the past – and that fire danger exists year-round.

The Sacramento Fire Department is expected to give more details Wednesday morning at Cal Expo.
