The burned remains of a young girl were found Thursday in Glenn County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Though the remains have not been identified, but investigators say the victim was a girl between 5 and 10 years old.

The body was found near County Road D south of County Road 33, detectives said.

It was not clear how long the body had been there. Investigators believe the young girl was killed recently, because of how close to a road her body was found.

Glenn County Sheriff Richard Warren says his office has been in contact with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department as part of the investigation.

The remains were sent to the Chico State Human Identification lab. Investigators have also collected DNA evidence in hopes of identifying the girl.
