Madera Man Arrested for Almond Embezzlement

One man has been arrested, accused of stealing almonds from his employer and selling them online.

According to police, Sonny Martinez stole the almonds while working the night shift. He would then sell them through the Facebook group “Madera Online Garage Sale” for an extremely reduced price.

Investigators set up a sting and arrested him in possession of over 70 pounds of pasteurized raw almonds.

The investigation shows the theft occurred weekly for at least eight months. During that time, the employer suffered an estimated loss of up to $20,000.

Martinez was arrested for embezzlement.
