Flames broke out inside the garage of a five-bedroom home on Knight Lane in El Dorado Hills about 3:30 p.m. Monday, spreading through the attic into other parts of the home.

According to the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, one person was home at the time of the fire and escaped safely.

The fire came close to spreading to a neighboring home.

"First thing we did is put a hose line between the house on the right just to make sure it didn't catch fire," said El Dorado Hills Fire Battalion Chief David Brady.

Crews from El Dorado Hills Fire and Cal Fire worked together to knock down the flames and contain them to the one home.

A total of 12 units were dispatched to the fire, allowing fresh firefighters to relieve the first crews on scene who were battling flames in the 100-degree heat of the day.

A neighbor sustained minor foot burns when he walked next door to the burning home in his bare feet to make sure nobody was inside before fire crews arrived.

No other injures were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
