Calaveras officers discovered a 19-year-old male that appeared to be suffering from knife attack wounds Friday morning.

Officers found the victim while responding to an assault call on the 23000 block of Highway 26 in West Point.

The suspect, Michael Mendibles, was allegedly intoxicated when the attack happened. He made several threats and attempted to stab the victim.

After the victim was able to wrestle the knife away from Mendibles, he fled the scene and later returned with a bow and arrow, police said.

As Mendibles began to draw the bow and arrow, the victim escaped through a window and notified authorities.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Mendibles was arrested on charges of attempted murder, battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation into the motive is ongoing.
