The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the body of a 14-year old girl was recently recovered from the Sacramento River.

The girl was allegedly swimming near Sims Flat Campgrounds, south of Castella, when she reportedly went under some rapids and never came up at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday.

According to Sheriff’s deputies her body was found and removed from the river at about 7:45 p.m.

This makes for the second drowning in the Sacramento River in the past week. A young man was swimming Wednesday at the Woodson Bridge near Corning when he reportedly went under and did not resurface. His body has not been retrieved.
