Detectives in Placer County are investigating a heinous crime, involving two men getting shot and torched.

First responders came to the 3700 block of Annabelle Avenue in Roseville at around 11:30 pm Thursday.

“I heard the gun shots like at 11:30, and I thought well that might be fire crackers,” neighbor, Diane Long said.

Placer County Sheriff’s Department said two men were shot in the head right in front of a day care center. Then they were burned alive.

“Burned? Ok... That's shocking,” neighbor, Debbie Martin said.

One neighbor said he smelled gasoline, ran outside, and saw the two men lying face down.

Through the flames, another neighbor said he saw one of them barely breathing.

“He used his hose and extinguished the fire,” Placer County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, Deanna Erwin said. “Unfortunately when the fire was out he realized there were two young men laying there.”

Investigators said the victims are two men in their late 20’s or early 30’s. What neighbors do not understand is why they were shot and burden on this sleepy road.

“Nobody comes in this neighborhood unless they're coming to somebody's house, because everybody knows it is a dead end every way,” Martin said.

“It's bad enough to have two people shot in the head but to light them on fire, it's a very unusual scenario in Placer County for sure,” Erwin said.

Sheriff’s detectives are following all leads but no suspects have been arrested.

The victims were rushed to the hospital. Their condition is still unknown.
