Larissa Petrashishen is a mother perplexed, by the arrest of her 25-year-old son David Petrashishen - booked for arson.

Authorities believe he started the fast-moving fire in Placer County on Monday, that spread to more than 400 acres in Sacramento County, destroying one home in its path.

"Very good boy. I don't know what happened with him. I can't believe it. I don't know," his mom said.

An investigative lieutenant with Placer County tells FOX40 that a couple of witnesses placed David at the spot where the fire first began on Monday. Investigators said David has cooperated with them and they believe he started the fire.

Larissa described David as a good son growing up, who now has a drug problem.

"I love him because he's my first son," she said.

His childhood friends don't know the extent of his problems but believe and hope he finds his way back and gets the help he needs.

"I definitely know that David's a good person and he's a good-hearted person. He's just been on the wrong," longtime friend Brandon Cota said

Although the fast-moving line of flames came close to homes and threatened horses in the area, loved ones are grateful no one was hurt.
