A statewide search for a Tracy man accused of killing his friend is underway. Kaleo Schreiner is suspected of killing 20-year-old Megan Troen, according to Fresno County investigators.
The woman's body was found in the California Aqueduct near West Nees Avenue and Interstate 5 in the Firebaugh area of Fresno County, nine days after the she was reported missing.
Barbara Troen is devastated. FOX40 spoke with her over the phone and she told us her daughter had special needs and she is heartbroken over the loss.
She shared with FOX40 the joy her daughter brought to her life.
“We had special plans for her 21st birthday. She was so excited. I can’t believe it,” her mother said.
Megan's body was found a week ago in an aqueduct about 90 miles from her home in Tracy.
“I don’t have the details right now of what her cause of death was or if there was any sort of trauma that was inflicted upon her,” said Tony Botti, a spokesman with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
Nine days before the disturbing discovery, Barbara Troen filed a missing person’s report with the Tracy Police Department. The last person seen with Megan was Schriener.
"This particular night they were set to … was supposed to go out and grab a quick bite to eat then come back to the house,” Botti said.
Now, the search is on for the suspect. For Megan’s mom -- the loss is unbearable, she said.
“This man took my child’s life so tragically,” she said.
She hopes investigators catch Schreiner as soon as possible.
Schreiner is described as 6 feet tall, and weighing about 300 pounds. He has several tattoos, including an "LV" tattoo on his cheek.
He may be driving a 2001 black Lexus IS 300 with California license plate number 6SLZ045.
